The emergence of a geopolitical actor within the Syrian territory known in the Arab world as Daesh has put everyone on the alert, but especially the Kremlin. Because it considers this organization to be detrimental to its geopolitical interests in Syria, a highly strategic place within the Middle East region. Russian bombings on September 30, 2015, marked a new military era of the Russian state in the Syrian Shatterbelt. However, this is not the first time that the Kremlin has made military incursions into these territories, most recently in Russian history is Soviet Vietnam in Afghanistan, a state with complex geographical features, but also very different from the ones they were accustomed to To train the troops of the Red Army. The product of this last incursion produced a series of structural problems that triggered with the collapse of the same one. Analyzing the geopolitical and tactical variables of the Soviet incursion into Afghanistan and Russia in Syria, it was found that the Russian State extracted lessons in political geography from its experience with the Afghan Mujahideen in the context of the Cold War; And is applying them in the current context of Syria.
