Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that arises as a delayed or delayed response to a stressful event or to a situation (brief or lasting) of an exceptionally threatening or catastrophic nature, real or imagined, that would cause widespread discomfort in almost all the world. In the USA and according to the National Comorbidity Survey Replication, conducted between February 2001 and April 2003, it was estimated that PTSD prevalence of 6.8%. A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed at the Central Military Hospital where a PTSD prevalence of 16.66%
Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of acute stress disorder (TEA) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by means of semi-structured interview of DSM5, in military patients hospitalized in combat at the Central Military Hospital (HMC) Bogotá psychiatric service.
Methodology: An observational, descriptive study was carried out. Prospective, prevalence where all military patients injured in combat who were hospitalized in the HMC were included. The signing of the informed consent was made at the entrance, in addition the scale of risk factors and the PC-PTS scale were performed and, if the scale was positive, a structured interview was performed for the diagnosis of ASD. A second scale of PC-PTS was performed 15 days after the traumatic event, if this was positive, the interview was performed for TEA. A third, fourth and fifth PC-PTS were then applied at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after the traumatic event. If someone gave a positive result the diagnostic interview for PTSD was applied. Upon confirmation of the diagnosis, the patient entered the post-traumatic stress clinic of the HMC psychiatry service.
Results: 102 subjects with a history of having been injured in combat and hospitalized in HMC met the selection criteria. After the application of scales for acute stress, posttraumatic stress and semi-structured interviews, the respective diagnosis was made. The prevalence of ASD at admission and 15 days after the traumatic event was 1.96%. And prevalence of PTSD at 3,921%, at 3 months at 4.90% and at 6 months at 10.78%. It was found that two patients with PTSD diagnoses at one month had a history of TEA
Conclusions In our study we observed a prevalence of PTSD is similar to the worldwide prevalence, but a lower prevalence found in HMC. As our study is only descriptive, analytical studies should be performed to look at the risk factors associated with the onset of this pathology
