For the extraction of the mineral coal it is necessary to remove large amounts of rocky material; For this, the use of explosives and heavy machinery is indispensable. Within the heavy machinery are the drills that are responsible for drilling holes in the field to be later loaded with an explosive agent. The explosive agent currently used in the Cerrejon mine is the emulsion which is safe, economical, efficient and behaves very well in both wet and dry land, following a design the holes are leveled, loaded, tied and flown. Thanks to the blasting, the rocky material is fragmented, remaining in an ideal size to be easy to remove and then reach the coal mantle. The mineral coal is removed, loaded and stacked to be later transported by train to the port where it is exported to different parts of the world.
