The municipality of Aguachica, located in the northeast of the country, in the department of Cesar,
It is an area of the Colombian State that is affected by water scarcity, the product of change
climate on the globe. The Aguachica Public Services Company (ESPA),
responsible for the municipal aqueduct, it only supplies the water resource every 15 days to the
population, with a duration of twenty-four (24) hours by sector or by subdivision, situation that
seriously affects the quality of life of the Aguachiquenses.
In this regard, the United Nations Development Program (hereinafter
UNDP) together with 193 countries conceive the Sustainable Development Goals initiative and
urge all States of the international system to contribute to compliance with the
objectives as a necessary obligation for sustainability in the future, with the purpose of
improve the quality of life and preserve it in humanity.
For this reason, this trial shows the location of areas with water potential of the
municipality, and as a result a high percentage of underground rivers were found, which
by connecting these with a treatment plant, they can be the solution to the shortage
of Aguachica drinking water, which would generate the partial fulfillment of the Development Objective
Sustainable number six, which aims to guarantee universal access to safe drinking water
and affordable for the world population in 2030.
