Resumen
Este documento tiene como objetivo realizar un análisis de la ocurrencia de siniestros
marítimos e incidentes a bordo de los buques que están al servicio del sector marítimo
internacional, debido a que estos buques son de vital importancia a nivel mundial, al ser
la alternativa más eficiente para el comercio y transporte de mercancías, pero aun en el
siglo XXI con gran cantidad de avances tecnológicos que han ayudado a hombres y
mujeres a mejorar las técnicas de navegación, la seguridad integral marítima y la
seguridad de la vida humana en el mar, se siguen presentando cifras elevadas de
siniestros marítimos y las estadísticas no han disminuido considerablemente, razón por la
cual se plantea identificar la causa raíz de estos hechos no deseados que en ocasiones se
convierten en catástrofes para la humanidad y para el medio ambiente debido a la
magnitud de los daños irreparables que incluyen la pérdida de vidas humanas en el mar y
la destrucción parcial o total de los ecosistemas marinos, esto a través de la observación
del informe anual estadístico de la Agencia Europea de Seguridad Marítima EMSA, para
emitir a los Comandantes y Capitanes de buques las mejores recomendaciones con el fin
de evitar futuras catástrofes causadas por siniestros marítimos.
