Different studies, including the United Nations Human Settlements Program, PNUAH, have been developed on the role of the bicycle as a sustainable means of transport and that reveals important advantages in social, economic and cultural matters for people. This research addresses the problem of vehicular congestion and citizen mobility that has been occurring in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta, accompanied by the increase in users of bicycles as a means of transport. Therefore, the objective was to compare mobility by bicycle with the public service from the round of Km 8 of the municipality of Los Patios to the Central de Abastos de Cúcuta, department of Norte de Santander. A quantitative, descriptive and fieldwork methodology was applied to measure data such as speed, time, georeferencing and altimetry in 4 different routes that daily users of buses, vans and bicycles use to make this journey. In the results, it was possible to measure the conditions of travel by bicycle and public service on the main routes and schedules used by users. From this, the distance, time and speed data on each route and each journey were compared to determine which means offered the greatest efficiency. Likewise, the opinion of bicycle users on the choice of this means of transport and on the availability of routes for travel was known. It was concluded that the public transport service offers, on average, greater speed and less delay time per journey compared to the bicycle, since in long distances the automotive modality is faster, mainly in sections with little traffic lights and intersections; This is why urban mobility planning in the metropolitan area can take into account an intermodal design that optimizes times and routes.
