The illicit exploitation of minerals is one of the main causes of deforestation in Colombia, through this activity ecosystems have been transformed generating irreversible damage to watercourses and natural forests, the exploitation of alluvial gold as a method of extraction uses heavy machinery on land and water and causes great loss of vegetation cover. The environmental impact generated by this activity regardless of whether it is a tender or illegal is not only represented by the affectation of the native vegetation cover but also by air pollution, surface water pollution, the impact on flora and fauna and the generation of social conflicts in the areas of interference. Remote sensing offers the technology and methods to observe, quantify and analyze through satellite imagery, the environmental impact of human intervention on the Earth's crust.
