A sanitary sewer system is responsible for collecting, transporting and disposing of wastewater from a population to a receiving source or a wastewater treatment plant. In the case of a "WWTP" it is responsible for the treatment of wastewater, this consists of a series of physical, chemical and biological processes that aim to eliminate or minimize the contaminants that are present in the discharges that are generated in domestic activities. and/or industrial. This project proposes the design of a sanitary sewer system and a WWTP for the village of La Herradura, jurisdiction of the Municipality of Bolívar in the department of Valley of Cauca, for a future population of 849 inhabitants. Currently, this population, which is located in the geographical valley of Cauca River, does not have a sewage system and its subsequent treatment of wastewater. Households dispose of their liquid waste through latrines or septic tanks, which contaminate groundwater. This municipality in the north of Valley of Cauca is located approximately 120 kilometers from Cali and the district of La Herradura, 10 minutes from the urban area of the municipality of Bolívar. For the design proposal, it was necessary to search through primary and secondary information, the operating parameters and amounts of wastewater to be treated and population; processes and/or operations that can be carried out in order to optimize the WWTP system were identified. Once the design proposal for the sewage system and the WWTP for a useful life of 25 years has been made, the processes corresponding to the removal of the contaminant load from the wastewater must be carried out, comply with current environmental regulations and provide quality of life. to the population, taking into account that articles 79 and 80 of the Political Constitution of our country must be complied with, where it is established as an obligation of the State, to protect the diversity and integrity of the environment, prevent and control the factors of environmental deterioration and demand the repair of the damage caused, being the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, to set parameters and values, enforcing punctual discharges to surface waters and public sewage systems, and on the other hand, to dictate regulations tending to control and reduce water pollution throughout the national territory. Achieving compliance with the objectives of the township of La Herradura in the municipality of Bolívar Valley of Cauca, is to promote and direct the work of protecting the population's water resource, through the optimization of treatment systems and guarantee people clean water. The minimum parameters to be met are those described in article 8 of Resolution 631 of 2015. The treatment used for the removal of the domestic wastewater load was made up of a preliminary treatment followed by a biological treatment:
• Preliminary treatment: Coarse and medium grids, Parshall flume, grease trap and sand drying bed.
• Biological treatment: Septic tank, upflow anaerobic filter and trickling filter.
