The Bogota river watershed, represents one of the most productive economic structures of the country and this is because of the use of its natural resources, which are used for the economy improvment. However the increase of these activities have brought bad practices which have generated, major environmental impacts over the Bogota river along with hydraulic problems, affecting the residents of the watershed. It was developed a literature review of documents published by environmental organizations, universities, and other studies related to the situation of the river and this information was organized in order to contextualize the reader about the current issues, as well as the corrective and preventive actions that have been executed from the 2010-2011 winter wave. La Niña phenomenon, generated the increase in precipitation and therefore the growth of bodies of water levels never seen before in more than 50 years. Serious problems were generated in the savanaah of Bogotá by the river´s overflow, whereby action plans were developed by the enviromental authorities in order to mitigate the damage and prevent future events. These actions include the hydraulic adjustment and environmental recovery of the Bogotá river and the emergency management plans updating due to the overflow of bodies of water. It is concluded that is necesary a rational use of resources, always seeking sustainable development, on the basis of the education of all people involved in the Bogota river watershed.
