COPD patients find their main limitation in the dyspnea and inability to exercise this provides, due to progressive lung hyperinflation. There are several ways to evaluate objectively through the pulmonary function tests and hyperinflation that have been described in the literature the importance this has on both quality of life and mortality in patients with COPD. That is why the aim of our study was to describe the change in inspiratory capacity / total lung capacity (IC / TLC) and the BODE index in patients with moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe severe before and after 12 or more sessions of pulmonary rehabilitation. The methodology used was a retrospective single cohort with power information for the years 2008 to 2013. Population used COPD patients were severe and very severe the pulmonology department of the central military hospital. The sample size calculated by simple random probability sampling of subjects pulmonary rehabilitation was carried a total of 56 individuals, of which 38 pairs were minimum necessary for the study. It was possible to collect 82 patients, and finally, 21 pairs suitable for the analysis. The main variables were defined COPD espirométricamente have to have an FEV1/FVC ratio less than 70%, and CI / CPT and lung volumes measured by the BODE index measured by spirometry and 6-minute walk.
The results revealed no significant changes in either the FEV1 or FEV1/FVC ratio in nor IC / TLC ratio or the BODE index, results discussed later. We believe that you can not discard those results and the need to complete the sample with statistical weight to assess whether there are dissimilarities in the current results.
