Abstract
The use of databases in Health Sciences and Health Areas is not well known and not commonly practiced. The database used by the Speech Pathology students who practice at the Central Military Hospital has served as a significant learning strategy in the areas of voice and speech. This database started as a need for the students to understand different topics that when applied into real life, they do not correlate. This database is accurate, user friendly and it is used by the students rotating quarterly in the Hospital.
When the students start the Clinical Practice at the Central Military Hospital, they take an initial evaluation on knowledge, skills, abilities and capabilities in the area of voice and speech. This evaluation usually throws unexpected results for the level students should have to successfully practice at the Hospital.
A detailed analysis was done based on the experience given by the Universities of La Habana, Antofagasta (Chile), and The Military Hospital. The main goal was to establish the influence of databases as a didactic strategy to achieve an effective and a successful learning in clinical practice in the area of voice and speech. The results are clear evidence in the construction of conceptual maps by categories, and concluding that students managed to integrate the different challenges in the teaching-learning process.
