Abstract
The purpose of the research is to analyze the consequences for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Colombia (group 2), which present financial information not fully in compliance with the technical accounting framework under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as of 30-Dec-2016. The development of the research is done through a qualitative approach of descriptive type, using the technique of documentary revision, where it begins with the identification of the norms that regulate the compliance of the IFRS for SMEs and the Public Accountant in Colombia for the period 2016, then reports or formal studies on compliance with the IFRS for SMEs are analyzed, and then establish the connection between the compliance reports and the SME regulations on the application of IFRS for the same period. Also, non-legal factors that affect SMEs are determined when issuing financial information outside of IFRS. The main finding reveals a high risk of economic loss for SMEs that issue financial information outside the IFRS regulatory framework, where business continuity can be significantly affected.
