The tires when they finish their time of use, have become one of the main triggers of environmental pollution, the tires that are discarded genrally are synonymous with improper handling, either because they are burned in the open which causes great negative impacts on the environment since its combustion generates high emission of pollutants. The abandoned tires also function as rainwater reservoirs, serving as habitat for insect vectors of diseases. Faced with this problem, it is essential to generate strategies that change the traditional way in which these materials are discarded. In this sense, this article traces successful experiences in other countries that have made possible the reduction of pollution produced by these materials in the final phase of its productive cycle. At the same time, the process of transforming this material into rubber powder used at present for the construction and paving of roads is characterized, a leading process in terms of the use of recycled tires for the great utility it represents and the benefits with respect to conventional materials in terms of economy and useful life, this with the purpose of making an assessment of the current status of this as a sustainable alternative, friendly to the environment and, finally, conclude with normative references of National order and Capital District currently regulates the disposal and use of used tires.
