Internal audits are a systematic process that allows a self-evaluation of compliance with the requirements found in the current legal regulations and applicable to each organization, this is achieved through the collection of evidence, identification and survey of results that are able to evaluate the degree of compliance with the requirements analyzed, in order to promote continuous improvement of each process in the company. These internal audits must be carried out by trained and suitable personnel, with clear knowledge and experience in identifying and collecting findings, in addition to this, they must have basic knowledge about the audited company and specific skills to achieve an adequate exercise. Companies are currently in search of continuous improvement for these tools, such internal audits are implemented to comply with current regulations and provide their collaborators (customers and employees) with a better experience and grow widely. Neither the organizations or the updates of the ISO standards could anticipate the challenges brought by the Covid 19 pandemic that affected the normal development of audits, that presented a challenge for auditors who had to face the restrictions and still continue to validate the processes and documents of the companies. For this reason, the auditors had to make use of their ingenuity and technological tools to continue the development of their activity and continue auditing the companies, thus we found the use of communication channels such as videoconferencing to identify findings, the use of their skills to validate the veracity of the auditee and its evidence, virtual meetings to validate processes at a distance, are just some of the examples of the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic entailed. Within these changes and taking into account the challenges, the auditors began to face situations of doubt and to be laxer in complying with the provisions of the regulations, allowing documents signed digitally or even without signature, auditing processes remotely or virtually, without an actually verification that complying with the rules, however, some of the technological and virtual practices, turned out to be more efficient. Although we also identified good practices that the pandemic has left in audits, the virtual progress meetings optimize time, travel, and carry out more audits, it can be taken into account that now it is possible to hold follow-up meetings more often than before. It also improve costs such as the mobility of the auditor to the site, or flexibility in schedules, practices that will surely continue to be applied in future audits due to the efficiency they represent.
