Este artículo surge de la reflexión de los resultados parciales de la investigación El concepto de infinito actual en el marco del modelo de van Hiele, cuyo propósito fue describir la comprensión de tres estudiantes de grado once de una institución educativa colombiana de carácter oficial, frente al concepto de infinito actual y su relación con funciones de variable real. Con ese propósito, se diseñó un instrumento de indagación permanente, consistente en una entrevista semiestructurada de carácter socrático. Para validar el instrumento, se propusieron descriptores hipotéticos que, refinados durante el proceso de investigación, contribuyeron a obtener los descriptores finales, para diseñar la entrevista definitiva y, a través de ella, a la luz del modelo de van Hiele, reconocer y clasificar el nivel de compresión de los estudiantes frente al concepto en cuestión. En cuanto al desarrollo metodológico se adoptó el enfoque cualitativo, con estudio de caso, que busca transformar la realidad en un contexto educativo particular, con miras a producir conocimiento práctico que pueda ser generalizado.

This article arises from the reflection of the research’s partial results: the concept of current infinity in the framework of the model of van Hiele. The purpose was to describe the understanding of three students of eleven grade in an Official Colombian Educational Institution, facing the concept of current infinity and its relationship with real variable functions. For this, an instrument of permanent inquiry was designed, consisting of a semi-structured interview of a Socratic nature. To validate the instrument, hypothetical descriptors were proposed that, refined during the research process, contributed to obtain the final descriptors, to design the final interview and, through it, in the light of van Hiele’s model, recognize and classify the students’ level of understanding against the concept under consideration. About the methodological development, the qualitative approach was adopted, with a case study, which seeks to transform reality in a particular educational context, with the inten- tion of producing practical knowledge that can be generalized.
