The stone aggregate is the material with the most presence in terms of weight and volume in hot asphalt mixtures, therefore it provides high resistance and durability to the final product.
In this investigation, the sources of alluvial deposits in the department of Santander, closest and most accessible to route 45A, were located, in each of them samples of aggregates were taken in two different periods, which were analyzed for the hardness of the material. stone by carrying out abrasion tests in a Los Angeles machine at different revolutions, finding that the results presented variation and most of them did not comply with the regulations of the general construction specifications INVIAS 2022 for hot dense asphalt mixtures used in folders of rolling, because values exceeded those stipulated of 25% at 500 revolutions and 5% at 100 revolutions.
The possible causes of the variation of the wear results were analyzed, such as test precision, period and mode of exploitation. Given the geological conditions and the physical and mechanical characteristics of the alluvial deposits, it was determined that the stone aggregates of the alluvial sources of the department of Santander are suitable for use in hot asphalt mixtures, but their acceptance in the construction of rolling folders must be supported.
