Abstract
Anophthalmic socket is the absence of the eye that can be congenital or acquired. Dry eye is a multifactorial disease of the tears and ocular surface that results in symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbance, and tear film instability with potential damage to the ocular surface. It is accompanied by increased osmolarity of the tear film and inflammation of the ocular surface.1
There are several theories about the symptoms in patients with anophthalmic socket among there, is the reduction of the aqueous phase of the tear film, and therefore suspect, diagnose and treat dry eye syndrome afflicting these patients could decrease those symptoms
In this descriptive cross-sectional study we evaluate the difference in the frequency of dry eye of the anophthalmic socket in relation to the contralateral normal eyes, there are not enough literature about the frequency of dry eye in the anophthalmic socket, this is the reason why search of dry eye, and treatment are not performed routinely
