Abstract
Currently, micro abrasion tests are focused on replicating the movements of different joints of the human body, which are mostly repetitive and cyclic, which is why, when performing a test that allows characterizing the abrasive wear resistance of a Biomaterial for use in joints, the best scenario is one where the system has control over its direction of rotation, the degrees of freedom allowed and the total cycles of the test. At the Military University Nueva Granada, the Volta research group developed a team to perform micro abrasion tests. However, the current system has a DC motor and at the time of developing a test there is only one direction of rotation during the entire test. Due to the above, this project is intended to develop a plan to improve the current equipment, with the purpose of conducting micro abrasion tests where there is control over the rotation speed and the angle of travel with oscillatory movements, which allow approximate the effects that will have in a material that is subjected to a joint replacement. The material to use is 316L stainless steel, which contains different metals that increase its resistance to corrosion, improves its resistance to pitting of chloride ion solutions and provides greater resistance to high temperatures.
