Abstract
Acute respiratory infections represent one of the main public health problems in the pediatric population, comprising between 30% and 60% of all hospitalizations in children under 5 years of age.
We became interested in the use of microalbuminuria as a possible marker of endothelial compromise. It should be taken into account that this marker has already been used in diseases such as diabetic nephropathy and arterial hypertension, mainly, being a predictor of morbidity and mortality.
In a previous investigation carried out in the Southwest Comprehensive Health Services Subnetwork - USS Patio Bonito Tintal, the use of proteinuria in patients with bronchiolitis was studied. The results indicated that regardless of the severity of the condition, there were positive ranges of proteinuria. However, the results were not conclusive7.
The general objective of our study is to estimate the prevalence of microalbuminuria in patients with acute lower respiratory infection in the Southwest Comprehensive Health Services Subnetwork USS Hospital Occidente De Kennedy and USS Patio Bonito Tintal of the emergency service and intensive care unit during the period of July and October 2021.
